Admission Requirements for Fisheries
Before we begin sharing the Fisheries admission requirements, please be informed that this course can be studied under the faculty of Agriculture. But some Universities that have is mentioned below study the course under another faculty.
O’Level Subjects and Requirements for Fisheries
Your O’Level subjects have a lot of roles to play in deciding whether you get admitted to study Fisheries or not. If you want to stand a chance of being admitted to any higher institution to study Fisheries, then you are required to have not less than five (5) SSCE credit passes in the required O’Level subjects listed below. The five (5) compulsory O’Level subjects include:
1). Biology/Agric Science.
2). Mathematics.
3). English.
4). Chemistry.
5). And any other Science subject.
WAIVER/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS.
Below are some of the requirements that most Universities require from candidates. Some are slightly different from the general requirements listed above. In any case, where the requirements of the school you are applying for are different from the general requirement, it is always advisable you satisfy the requirements of the school first.
1). DELSU accepts ‘O’ level pass in English Language with ‘O’ level credit pass in Mathematics.
2). MAUTECH requires ‘O’ level credit passes in Biology/ Agricultural Science, Chemistry, and any one (1) from Physics /Geography/Fisheries/ Economics.
3). UNIPORT accepts any Economics, Physics, and Geography.
4). UNIUYO, NDU, and ABU require five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Agric. Science.
5). MOUA and IBBU accept Five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes which must not be above two (2) sittings. The O’Level subjects are to include Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Biology, or Agricultural Science and any other science subjects. They also require at least an ‘O’ level pass in Physics. Meanwhile, an ‘O’ level credit in Agricultural Science must be backed up with at least an ‘O’ level pass in Biology.
6). KWASU requires five (5) SSC credit passes in Biology, Chemistry, English Language, Agricultural Science, Mathematics, and Geography /Physics/Economics.
7). OOU requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in the following subjects: Mathematics, English Language, Biology or Agricultural Science, and any other two (2) subjects.
8). RSUST requires ‘O’ level credit passes in Mathematics and English Language.
9). BOWEN requires five (5) ‘O’ level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Fisheries/Animal Husbandry, Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry, and any subject from among Physics, Economics, Geography, and Food and Nutrition.
10). KSU requires five (5) SSC credit passes or GCE O’Level credit passes in Chemistry, English Language, Biology or Mathematics, and Agric. Science, Economics, or any Social Science subject in addition to an ‘O’ level pass in Physics. They also require that an ‘O’ level credit in Agricultural Science must be backed up with at least an ‘O’ level pass in Biology.
11). FUTMINNA accepts any one (1) of Economics, Geography, or Physics as the fifth (5th) subject. They also require at least an ‘O’ level pass in Physics.
12). UNIBEN accepts Statistics and Further Mathematics. It also requires at least an ‘O’ level pass in Physics and ‘An O’level pass in Biology for candidates with ‘O’ level credit in Agricultural Science.

JAMB UTME Subjects Required For Fisheries
Another important factor that will determine if you will be admitted into any higher institution to study fishery is your JAMB subjects and JAMB score. This is especially for UTME candidates. You are expected to score not less than 180 in your JAMB UTME. You are also to ensure that you choose the right subjects in your UTME. Below is the general JAMB subject combination for Fisheries, except for special considerations from schools.
Please note that English Language is one of the Compulsory subjects in UTME for this course. Below are the three (3) other JAMB subject combinations for Fisheries:

1). UNIPORT requires the third subject to be either Mathematics or Physics.
2). KWASU requires Chemistry, Mathematics/Physics, and Biology/Agricultural Science.
3). UNIOSUN requires Chemistry, Agriculture/Biology, and any other science subject.
4). MOUA, IBBU, UDUSOK, and FED-OYE EKITI require Physics, Biology, and Chemistry.
5). FUAM requires Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Physics.
6). MAUTECH requires Biology/Agricultural Science and any other two (2) of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geography, and Economics.
7). LASU requires Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry.
8). BOWEN requires Physics, Biology, and Chemistry.
9). ABU requires Mathematics as the 3rd subject.
10). RSUST requires Biology or Agricultural Science.
11). OOU requires Agricultural Science or Biology and any other two (2) relevant subjects.
Direct Entry Admission Requirements For Fisheries
If you are not applying to study Fisheries through UTME, then you must fulfill the following Direct Entry admission requirements to study Fisheries:
i). NCE (Agriculture).
ii). Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in any of the following: Biology, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Agric Sci, Mathematics, Geography, (Pure & Applied) Physics, Economics, and Geology.
WAIVER/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (REMARKS)
1). UNIMAID accepts HND/ND/NCE and any other similar qualification.
2). FUTMINNA accepts NCE/ND with a minimum of lower credit in addition to the UTME requirements.
3). DELSU and MOUA require ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and Biology/Agricultural Science/Botany/Zoology.
4). FUTMINNA accepts NCE/ND credit into 200 level while HND holders may be admitted into 300 level.
5). NDU accepts
i). Passes at the ‘A’ level GCE or HSC in three (3) of the following subjects: Chemistry, Zoology, Biology, Botany, Physics, Geography, Mathematics, or Economics.
ii). ND in Fisheries or Agriculture.
iii). lower credit or upper HND/ND. In most cases, it depends on the candidate’s CGPA, she/he may be recommended for admission into 300 level.
6). MAUTECH requires Chemistry and Agricultural Science/Biology/Physics.
7). EBSU accepts HND and ND with at least upper credit in relevant programs or NCE with minimum merit passes in relevant subjects.
8). UNIBEN accepts HND (lower credit) or ND (upper credit) in any one of Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Economics, and Cooperatives, Forestry & Wildlife Mgt., Geology, Fisheries, Food and Brewing Science, Science Laboratory Technology, Advanced Microbiology in addition to the UTME requirements. NCE merit in Biology, Agricultural Science, Chemistry, or Physics in addition to the UTME requirements. Does not accept ‘A’ level pass in Health Science.
9). MAUTECH accepts the following:
i). Two (2) GCE `A’ Level passes in Chemistry, Physics, or Agricultural Science/Biology
ii). HND credit in (a) above.
iii). NCE/ND with credit pass in Biology, Chemistry, or Agricultural Science.
10). OOU accepts NCE merit passes in two (2) relevant subjects, relevant ‘A’ level passes, ND/Certificate of any of the Professional Examination Bodies in Agriculture, Finance, Cooperative Business Management, or other related subjects.
11). RSUST requires GCE/HSC ‘A’ level passes in Biology and Chemistry in addition to ‘O’ level credit pass in English Language, ND upper credit in Agricultural Science or Biology or HND credit in Biology or Agricultural Science plus the UTME requirements.
12). UNIOSUN accepts Two (2) ‘A’ level credit passes from chemistry and any one (1) of Agriculture, Biology, Physics, Mathematics, and Geography.
13). KSUSTA accepts IJMB/NCE/GCE ‘A’ Level or its equivalent in Chemistry and any one of Mathematics, Physics, Biology/Agricultural Science with at least a score prescribe annually by the University Senate; and ‘O’ level credit passes in Mathematics, English Language and Chemistry as core and any two (2) of Biology/Agricultural Science, Physics, Geography, Technical Drawing, Electrical, and Electronics. It also accepts ND/HND (at least 2.75 CGPA) in a relevant area and ‘O’ level credit passes in Chemistry, Mathematics, and English Language as core and any two (2) of Biology/Agricultural Science, Physics, and Geography.
14). FED-OYE EKITI requires ‘O’ level credit in Physics and candidates with an ‘O’ level pass in Physics and ‘O’ level credit in Mathematics may be considered.
15). ABU accepts the following:
i). ND (upper credit or distinction) in Fisheries Technology Management.
ii). HND (upper credit and above) in Fisheries Technology Management/Science.
16). UNIILORIN accepts HND (lower credit pass) in Agriculture, Fisheries or related programs from NBTE accredited Institutions.
17). IBBU accepts ND upper credit in Agriculture in addition to the five (5) relevant credit passes at SSC.
18). BOWEN requires two (2) ‘A’ level passes which must include Chemistry and any one (1) of Biology, Physics, or Human Nutrition.
19). UNIUYO accepts the following:
i). HND (lower credit)/ ND (upper credit)/ NCE credit in relevant disciplines into 200 level.
ii). Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, Physics, Botany, Geography, Mathematics / Statistics.
