UTME & Direct Entry Admission Requirements to Study Education and Social Studies

We have provided all the admission requirements for Education and Social Studies. It, therefore, behooves you to read through this page to know all the prerequisites needed to successfully proceed with your UTME/Direct Entry registration. You will find the requirements for both UTME and Direct Entry candidates below.

O’Level Subjects and Requirements

Certain O’Level subjects are required to study Education and Social Studies. UTME candidates are expected to have at least five (5) SSC credit passes which must include:

1). English Language.
2). Mathematics.
3). And any two (2) Arts /Social Science subjects.

UNIVERSITY SPECIAL CONSIDERATION AND REMARKS

1). AAUA requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes which must include Mathematics, English Language, and three (3) subjects from CRS/IRS, Commerce, Biology/Agricultural Science, Geography, Lit. in. English, Accounting, Bookkeeping, Economics, Government.

2). ABSU requires five (5) SSCE credits in passes in English Language and three (3) other subjects and at least a pass in Mathematics.

3). EKSU accepts any three (3) subjects.

4). DELSU requires credit passes in two (2) subjects from Economics, Geography/Physics, Government, and History.

5). EBSU requires five (5) SSCE credit passes to include Mathematics, English, Biology, Government, and any one (1) other social science subjects.

6). DELSU requires at least an O’Level pass in Mathematics.

7). OAU accepts Fine Art, Music, and Home Management with credits in at least two (2) of Govt., Economics, Geography, Religious Studies, and History. TC II holders should have merit passes in any two (2) of Home Economics, History, Social Studies, Religious Studies, and Fine Art.

8). ILORIN requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes which must include Mathematics, English Language, and three (3) of the following subjects: Social Studies, Civic Education, Economics, Fine Arts, Government, Commerce, Business Management, and Marketing.

9). OAU requires Five (5) ‘O’ credit passes which must include English Language. Candidates with a GCE O’Level background should also have credits in at least two (2) of Geography, Economics, Music, Government, History, Fine Arts, Home Economics, and Religious Studies. Those with TC II should also have merits in English and two of Social Studies, Government, History, Fine Art, Music, Home Economics, Literature in English, and Religious Studies.

10). UNIBEN requires Mathematics and two (2) Social Science subjects.

11). LCITY requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes at SSC or its equivalent which must include Government/History, English Language, and any other three (3) Arts subjects.

12). IAUED is the same as in Geography Education.

13). KSU requires five (5) O’ level credit passes to include English Language, a Pass in Mathematics, and four (4) other relevant subjects.

14). UNICAL requires five (5) O’Level credits in English Language and other relevant subjects. They also accept a pass in Mathematics.

15). UNIABUJA requires five (5) Credit Passes at SSCE (or its equivalent) to include English Language, Mathematics, and three (3) other relevant Arts/Social Science subjects.

16). TASUED requires five (5) ‘O’ level credits at one sitting or six ‘O’ level credits at two (2) sittings and they must include Mathematics, English Language, and Social Science subjects.

17). GOUU requires a credit pass in Mathematics.

JAMB Subject Combination for Education and Social Studies

Please UTME candidates should note that English Language happens to be a Compulsory subject to meet in your JAMB UTME for this course. Below are the other three (3) JAMB Subjects required for Education and Social Studies which happen to be under the faculty of Education.

1). Any three (3) subjects from Christian Religious Knowledge, Economics, IRS, Government, Geography/Physics, and History.

UNIVERSITY SPECIAL CONSIDERATION AND REMARKS

1). AAUA requires any three (3) of Economics, CRS/IRS, Geography, Biology/Agricultural Science, and Government/History.

2). EBSU requires Geography, Government, and History.

3). UNICAL accepts the same as in Education Arts.

4). DELSU requires at least two (2) of Geography/Physics, Economics, History, and Government.

5). TASUED requires two (2) Social Science and any one (1) other subjects.

6). IAUED requires the same as in Geography Education.

7). UNIBEN requires Mathematics and any two (2) of Geography, Economics, and Government.

8). ILORIN requires Mathematics in addition to two (2) other Social Science subjects from Fine Arts, Economics, Government, Geography, and Commerce.

Direct Entry Admission Requirements For Education and Social Studies

Direct Entry candidates who don’t intend to use UTME to apply to study Education and Social Studies must ensure that they meet the Direct Entry requirements for Education and Social Studies which are below:

i). NCE (Social Studies) from recognized colleges.
ii). Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in relevant subjects.

UNIVERSITY SPECIAL CONSIDERATION AND REMARKS

1). IAUED is the Same as Geography Education.

2). OAU accepts NCE (Social Studies) from any recognized Colleges of Education, NCE Social Studies combined with any other Social Science subject or Arts is acceptable to O.A.U. in addition to three (3) other subjects which includes English Language passed at credit levels in GCE, O’LEVEL or TC II at credit/merit levels in relevant subjects or Association Certificate in Education (Social Studies) of OAU or its equivalent passed at merit/credit level.

3). ILORIN: Preference will be given to NCE holders for Direct Entry. Note that General English at the NCE level is not acceptable instead of the ‘O’ Level credit pass.

4). TASUED accepts the following:
i). Two (2) ‘A’ level/ NCE (Merit/Credit) in Economics, Religious Studies, Government /Political Science, History, Social Studies, and Geography.
ii). Upper Credit ND (National Diploma) in Public Admission, Local Government Administration.

5). UNIABUJA accepts Two (2) level Credit passes in relevant Subjects/ NCE (minimum 10 points) plus ‘O’ Level requirements.

6). EBSU requires Two ‘A’ level/NCE passes in social studies, History, or Government.

7). AAUA accepts two (2) NCE merit in History, Fine Arts, Home Economics, Social Studies, Political Science, Religious Studies, Educational Management, Home Management, and Guidance and Counseling.

8). UNICAL requires the same as in Education Arts.

2. UNIBEN requires 2/3 NCE merit passes which must include a Social Science subject in addition to 3/2 O’L credit passes which must include Mathematics and English Language at one sitting.
