O’Level Subject Combination and Requirements for History
Your O’Level result plays a very vital role in deciding whether you will be given admission to study History or not. As a UTME candidate, you are required to have not less than five (5) SSC credit passes which must include the following O’Level subjects:
1). History.
2). English Language.
3). Government.
4). Two (2) other subjects in Arts or Social Sciences.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION & REMARKS
1). UNIKINGS requires ‘O’ level credit pass in Mathematics.
2). UNN accepts five (5) ‘O’ level credit pass in Government in place of History and three (3) other Social Science or Arts subjects.
3). UMYUK requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes or its equivalent in English Language, History or Government, any three (3) subjects from Arts or Social Sciences and ‘O’ level credit pass in Maths at not more than two (2) sittings.
4). UNN, ABU accepts five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in History/Government, English Language, in addition to any three (3) other subjects.
5). UNIBEN and SAU require ‘O’ level credit passes in History/Government, English, and one (1) other Arts subject.
6). REDEEMER’S also accepts ‘O’ level pass in Mathematics.
7). OAU requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language and History in addition to one (1) Arts subject and any other two (2) subjects from Arts or Social Sciences. They also accept Government in place of History.
8). UNILAG accepts five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Government/History and any other two (2) Arts subject from Literature-in-English, CRS/IS, Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo, Civic Education.

9). UNI-IBADAN requires six (6) ‘O’ level credits at two sitting or five (5) ‘O’ level credit at one (1) sittings to include History, Government, English Language, and any other subject from Arts and Social Sciences. The sixth (6th) could be from Science.
10). KASU accepts Government in place of History.
11). NDA requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in History’ English Language, Mathematics and any two (2) subjects from Geography, Commerce, Economics, Arabic, French, Account and Government.
12). FED-LAFIA requires credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Government /History and any other relevant subjects.
13. FED-LOKOJA accepts five (5) ‘O’ level passes at credit level to include or History, English Language and other three from Arts or Social Sciences.
14). FED-DUTSINMA accepts five (5) ‘O’ level credits which must include History and English Language. A credit in Government may be considered in place of History.
15). ABU accepts five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes which must include History or Government, English Language and three (3) other subjects in Arts or Social Sciences.

JAMB UTME SUBJECT COMBINATION FOR HISTORY
This section is strictly for UTME candidates who want to apply for admission to study History through JAMB UTME. You are going to be three (3) O’Level subjects in your UMTE examination apart from English Language which is already compulsory for almost all courses. Below are the three (3) other JAMB subjects combination for History:
1). History
2). And any other two (2) subjects from Social Sciences and Arts.
NOTE: The UTME/JAMB subject combination above is the same for History and Strategic Studies.

1). ABU requires either History or Government and any other two (2) Arts and Social Sciences subjects.
2). FULAFIA requires CRS/IS and any other relevant subject.
3). FULOKOJA and UNIABUJA accept Government in place of History.
4). FULOKOJA accepts History/Government and any other two (2) Arts or Social Sciences subjects.
5). IBADAN (UI) accepts Government in place of History.
6). MAIDUGURI (UNIMAID) requires History/Government/Civic and any other two (2) subjects.
7). OAU accepts History and two (2) other Arts subjects.
8). SAU accepts Government in substitute for History.
9). UNN accepts Government or History and two other Social Science or Arts subjects.
10). UNIBEN requires History or Government, one (1) Arts subject and any other subject.
11). UNILAG requires History/Government and two (2) other subjects from Arts or one from Social Sciences and one (1) from Arts.
12). UNIZIK requires History/ Government, Literature-in-English and any other Arts or Social Science subject.
DIRECT ENTRY ADMISSION REQUIREMENT FOR HISTORY
For all the candidates who want to apply for admission to study History in any Nigerian University but don’t intend to apply through UTME, then ensure that you meet the direct entry admission requirements below:
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in History and any other related subjects.
NOTE: The Direct Entry requirement above is also the same for History and Strategic Studies.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION & REMARKS
1). ABU requires two (2) ‘A’ level passes which must include History at NCE or IJMB. Use of English/General English at NCE, satisfies the UTME English Language requirement.
2). GSU accepts NCE merit in History as a Major subject.
3). FUDMA requires two (2) ‘A’ level passes in either History or/and Government and any other related subject. They also accept NCE/ND with good grades in any relevant progamme/subject.
4). SAU accepts two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Government and History, NCE credit in relevant subjects.
5) UNIABUJA accepts the following:
i). ND lower credit with the UTME requirements in addition to two (2) years post qualification.
ii). ND upper credit or A minimum of ten (10) points in NCE plus the UTME requirements or two (2) ‘A’ level credit passes which must include History or Government and one (1) other Arts subject.
6). UI accepts two (2) ‘A’ level/NCE passes in History and one (1) other related subjects.
7). UNILAG accepts very good passes in three (3) JUPEB/‘A’ level subjects, Government /or History and any two (2) or one (1) of Igbo, CRS, Yoruba, IS, French, Literature in English, Music and Fine Arts.
8). UNIBEN accepts ‘A’ level pass in Government in place of History, NCE credit in History; Government or Social Studies.
9). UNIZIK requires two (2) ‘A’ level passes in History as well as any other related subject.
10). UDU and UNIMAID accept NCE merit pass level in relevant subjects.
11). UNN requires at least five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes which must include History or Government, English Language, and a science subject.
