O’Level Subjects for Creative Arts

One of the requirements that qualify you to study Creative Arts is your O’Level subjects. To study Creative Arts, you are required to have at least five (5) SSCE credit passes in the required NECO/GCE/ WAEC subjects for Creative Arts which must include:

1). English Language.

2). Fine Arts.

3). Mathematics (At least a pass).

4). And any two (2) arts or social science subjects.

NOTE: For those with an NTC, the relevant subjects could be Building/Engineering Drawing, Decorative Painting; General Woodwork, Machine Printing and Finishing; Introduction to Building Construction; Lining, SprayPainting, Colour Mixing/Matching and Glazing; Sign and Design; Printing Origination; Wall hanging, General Metal Work, Surface Design and Printing; Graphics Printing and Ceramics, Basic Electricity, Spinning, Bleaching, Dyeing, and Finishing; Weaving, Graphic Design.

WAIVER/SPECIAL CONSIDERATION

1). UNIPORT accepts any three (3) ‘O’ level credit passes in the following subjects CRS/IS, Literature in English, a Nigerian Language, Economics, History/Government and Geography, Mathematics/Biology/Agricultural Science.

2). LAGOS accepts:

i). Music requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes to include Mathematics, English Language, Music/Literature in English, and any 2 subjects from Arts, Science, and Social Sciences.
ii). Theatre Arts requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes which must include Literature in English, English Language, Mathematics, and any 2 subjects one of which must be an Arts subject.
iii). Visual Arts requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, and any one (1) of Fine Arts/Craft Practice/Visual Arts/Photography/Dyeing & Bleaching and any other 2 subjects, one of which must be an Arts subject.

(3) UNN requires 5 ‘O’ level credit passes which must include Fine and Applied Arts, English Language, and one (1) Science subject. Applying candidates with NBC/NTC must have 5 ‘O’ level credit passes in the following subjects Technical drawing, English language, Painting and Decorating, and a Science subject.

There are three (3) JAMB subject combinations for Creative Arts that you must see in your UTME JAMB examination and they include:

Direct Entry Admission Requirements

Below are the Direct Entry Admission conditions for Creative Arts that you must have to satisfy if you don’t intend to apply to study Creative Arts through UTME:

(i) Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Arts or Fine Arts and any other subject.

(ii) ND (upper credit) and HND (lower credit) from recognized institutions.

WAIVER/SPECIAL CONSIDERATION

1). UNN accepts:
i). ND/NCE at merit level with UTME requirements.
ii). Three GCE A’ level passes in Technical Drawing or Fine Arts in addition to UTME requirements.
iii). HND holders with an average of B grade plus UTME requirement for admission into 300 level.
iv). Candidates would be interviewed.

2). UNILAG requires very good passes in 3 JUPEB/’A’ level subjects

i). Visual Arts: Visual Arts and any 2 of Yoruba/Igbo, CRS/IS, History, French, Music, and Government.
ii). Theatre Arts: Literature in English and any 2 of Yoruba, Igbo, CRS/IS, French, Government, History, Visual Arts, and Music.
iii). They also accept NCE Music, HND/ND upper credit in Drama/Theatre and Music; and ND or ‘A’ level in Music from the Royal School of Music, London, Trinity College, London, and MUSON (Musical Society of Nigeria).
iv). Music: Music and any 2 of Igbo/Yoruba, Literature in English, CRS/IS, French, Government, History, Economics, Chemistry, Visual Arts, Biology, and Further Mathematics.

3). UNIMAID accepts NCE with Fine/Creative Art (Major)
