Admission Requirements for Music
Please be informed that the information contained on this page was extracted from the Official JAMB Brochure. Below are all the things you require to easily register and gain admission to study music which happens to be under the faculty of Arts & Humanities.
O’Level Subjects And Requirements For Music
Your O’Level subjects are very important in deciding whether you will be eligible to apply to study this course. UTME candidates are required to have not less than five (5) SSC credits which must include the following:
1). Music.
2). English Language.
3). And any three (3) subjects from Arts and Social Sciences.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION AND REMARKS
1). BOWEN accepts the Trinity College of Music Grade V certificate, the Music Society of Nigeria’s Grade V certificate, and the Associated Board of Royal School of Music Grade V Certificate and other Social Science or Arts subjects.
2). OAU accepts English Language, one (1) Arts or Humanities subject, and three (3) from Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, ICT, Geography, Accounting, Agricultural Science, and Mathematics.
3). OAU requires ’O’ level credit passes in another Language, European or African.
4). MOUNTAIN TOP requires at least five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language and another African or European Language and an ‘O’ level credit pass in Music or passes at Grade V or Higher Local Examinations in Music of ABRSM or its equivalent.
5). IBADAN and OAU – ‘O’ level credit pass in Music is not compulsory.
6). UNIPORT accepts five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language and any other four (4) subjects a credit pass in Music is an added advantage.
7). UNIZIK does not require an ‘O’ level credit pass in Music but does accept an ‘O’ level pass in English Language.
8). UNIUYO does not insist on an O’ level credit pass in Music. ‘ If a candidate earns a Grade V certificate in the Associated Board of Royal School of Music (ABRSM) Examination or Music.
9). UNIJOS requires at least five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes to include Literature in English, English Language, and any Arts/Social Science subjects at two (2) sittings.
10). UNIUYO and UNN require candidates to only pass the Audition which is held on the last Thursday and Friday of August every year.
11). Possessing a degree from the Society of Nigeria (MUSON) Examination will be an added advantage.
JAMB UTME Subject combination for Music
There are four O’Level subjects that UTME candidates are going to meet in their JAMB UTME examination. The four (4) JAMB subject combinations for this course require the following:
1). English Language. (Compulsory For all Courses).
2). Music.
3). One (1) Arts subject.
4). And any other subject.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION AND REMARKS
1). BOWEN requires any of the CRS or Literature-in-English as the other subject.
2). OAU accepts any three (3) subjects from Social Sciences, Arts, or Sciences.
3). LASU accepts Music in addition to any two (2) other subjects.
4). UNIZIK and IBADAN accept any other three (3) Arts or Social Science subjects.
5). UNN and PHC accept any three (3) subjects.
6). MOUNTAIN TOP requires one (1) language subject and any one (1) Social Science subject.

Direct Entry Admission Requirements For Music
Those who don’t want to apply to study music via UTME are to ensure that they meet the Direct Entry admission requirements listed below.
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes which must include Music.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION AND REMARKS
1). BOWEN accepts an ‘A’ level pass in Maths or other Arts or Social Science subjects.
2). DELSU accepts HND (upper credit) into the 300 level, they also accept Grades from the Associated Board of Royal School of Music (ABRSM).
3). DELSU does not insist on an ‘O’ level credit pass in Music. Both Direct Entry and UTME candidates must pass a departmental audition.
4). UNN accepts the following:
A). For three (3)-Years
a1). ND in music, Pass in NCE single major, and NCE double major.
a2). Trinity College of Music Grade V certificate.
a3). Music Society of Nigeria’s Grade V Certificate.
a4). Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Grade V certificate.
B). For two (2)-Years NCE merit double major in Music Education.
5). MOUNTAIN TOP requires two (2) ‘A’ level passes to include Literature-in-English and any one (1) other Language subjects.
6). IBADAN accepts the following:
a). ‘A’ level pass in Music in addition to any other two (2) ‘A’ level subjects will be admitted into the 200 level.
b). ND/HND (upper credit) in Music from any recognized institution will be admitted into the 200 level.
c). Merit/NCE credit in Music major and any one other subject will be admitted into the 200 level.
d). MUSON Certificate or Grade VIII Theory ABRSM with any good HND or degree certificate will be granted admission into the 200 level.
7). UNIJOS accepts MUSIC majors in a relevant program like ND MUSIC credit, Theatre Arts or NCE credit/merit in Music Education credit/merit, IJMB ‘A’ level in Music plus UTME requirements.
8). LASU accepts the following:
a). NCE merit in Music Education, Music Technology/Music which must be from recognized institutions.
b). ND Music/Music Technology
c). (a) and (b) plus five (5) ’O’ level credit passes which must be at not more than two (2) sittings and it must include English Language and any combination of Arts and Sciences.
9). UYO accepts ND.
10). OAU accepts passes in three (3) subjects which must include Music.
a). NCE credit in Music.
b). Grade VIII (theory and practical), ABRSM London or its equivalent.
c). ND Music (upper credit) from OAU or any other recognized higher institution.
