Applied Geophysics is a pure science course that is only suitable for candidates and students with a science background. This simply means that commercial or art students are not supposed to apply for this course in Nigeria.

O’Level Requirements

If you are a UTME candidate, then you are expected to have five (5) SSCE credits in the following O’level subjects which apply to NECO, GCE, WAEC, and their equivalent;

1). Mathematics

2). English Language

3). Physics

4). Chemistry/Biology.

5). And any other science subject.

Waiver/Special Requirements

1). FUTA requires applicants to have credits in at least five subjects which should include Physics, English Language, Chemistry, and Mathematics at NOT more than 2 sittings in the WASSCE (West African Senior School Certificate Examination), NECO, GCE, O/L or their equivalent.

2). OAU accepts five (5) O’level credit passes in Chemistry, English Language, Biology/Further Maths, Physics and Mathematics.

First of all, you are required to score 180 which is the JAMB cut-off mark for Applied Geophysics, though we urge students to aim for 200 and above to stand a better chance of being admitted on merit provided they meet other requirements.

  • You require ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and Mathematics or Physics.

Waiver/Special Requirements

1). UNICAL requires 2 ‘A’ level passes or its equivalent in Physics and either Mathematics or Chemistry in addition to GCE/WASCE ‘O’ Level/NECO passes at credit level in English Language, Physics, Mathematics, and two (2) Science subjects.

2). OAU requires ‘A level’ passes in Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry.

3). OAU accepts HND (Upper Credit) in Mining Engineering in addition to UTME requirements.

4). FUTA is probably going to admit candidates to 200 level if they fulfill the following requirements below:
a). Satisfy the general entry requirements specified above.
b). Obtained National Diploma (Upper Credit minimum) or its equivalent in Laboratory Technology (Geology Option) and Civil and Electrical/ Electronic Engineering, Mining or any other course adjudged relevant by the Department.
c). Good passes at GCE (Advanced Level) or its equivalent in at least two (2) of the following subjects: Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.
