O’Level Subjects and Requirements

Before you can be qualified to study this course in any of the Universities in Nigeria, you are required to have at least five (5) SSC credit passes, TC II merit, or NBC/NTC credit passes which include Economics, Mathematics, and Mathematics and any two (2) of other subjects in the Arts or Social Sciences. For NBC, the other subjects could be from any of the following subjects: Principles of Accounts, Commerce, Secretarial Duties, Office Practice, Typewriting, and Shorthand.

WAIVER/SPECIAL CONSIDERATION

i). RSUST requires 5 ‘O’ Level credit passes to include Economics, Mathematics, English Language, and any 2 subjects from Commerce, Business Management, Type-Writing, Government, Accounting, Shorthand, etc.

ii). EBSU accepts five (5) TCII Merit, NTC/NBC, or SSC credit passes which should include Economics, English Language, Mathematics, and any two (2) other subjects in the Arts or Social Science. For NBC holders, the subject can be from any of the following: Office Practice, Commerce, Secretarial Duties, Principles of Accounts, Typewriting, and Shorthand.

iii). UNIZIK accepts credit in RSA Business Studies stage II.

iv). NDU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, and any three (3) of Commerce/Economics, Store Keeping/Management, Principles of Accounts, Insurance including any one (1) of the Social Sciences which should not be in more than 2 sittings.

v). BSU requires mathematics, English language, and any other 3 subjects from Business and Social Sciences related courses and Economics from GCE/SC/SSCE or NTC/WASSCE/NBC/RSA Business Studies (stage ii intermediate).

g). FED-OYE EKITI accepts five (5) SSC, TC II merit or NBC/NTC credit passes including Commerce/Economics, Mathematics, English Language, and two (2) other subjects in Arts or Social Science. NBC holders can use the following subjects to complete the two (2) other subjects: Secretarial Duties, Office Practice, Commerce, Principles of Accounts, Typewriting, and Shorthand.

h). BENIN also accepts Commerce in place of Economics.

i). UNN requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in the following subjects: Mathematics, English language, and any three (3) subjects from the following: History, Economics, Commerce, Chemistry, Financial Accounting, Typewriting, Geography, Physics, and Government.

j). IAUED  the Same as in Accounting Education.

k). DELSU requires 5 ‘O’ Level credit passes in the following subjects must: Economics, Mathematics, English Language, and any other two (2) subjects which must not be in more than two (2) sittings.

l). KWASU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include Mathematics, English Language in addition to anyone (1) of Typewriting, Economics, Financial Accounting, Commerce in addition to any two (2) other Social Science subjects.

m). BAUCHI requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in Mathematics, Economics/Social Studies, English Language, and any two (2) subjects.

n). LASU accepts any one (1) of Principles of Account, Business Methods, Commerce, or Book Keeping.

o). TASUED requires six (6) ‘O’ Level credit passes at two (2) sittings or five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes at one (1) sitting in Mathematics, English Language, and any other three (3) subjects in Arts or Social Sciences which must also include Economics.

p). UNILAG accepts five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in Mathematics, Economics, English Language and two (2) subjects from Social Sciences or Arts in the following: Financial Accounting, Data Processing/Office Practice.

JAMB Subject Combination for Business Education

There are three (3) JAMB UTME subjects that are needed to study Business Education and they will be listed below. But just knowing the proper JAMB Subject Combination for Business Education is not all that matters, you are also required to score not less than 180 in the JAMB UTME examination to be considered for admission into any Nigerian University. Nevertheless, below are the JAMB subject combinations for Business Education:

1). Economics.

2). Mathematics.

3). And one (1) of Physics, Literature in English, Government, History, Geography, or Chemistry.

WAIVER/SPECIAL CONSIDERATION

1). IAUED the same as in Accounting Education.

2). KWASU accepts Mathematics, and English Language in addition to any other two (2) Social Science subjects.

3). EBSU accepts Economics, Mathematics, and Commerce/Principles of Accounts.

4). DELSU accepts Mathematics, Economics, and any other Social Science/Arts/Science subject.

5). RSUST requires Economics, Mathematics, and any other Social Science or Arts subjects for (Accountancy, Marketing, and Management options) and accepts Economics and any two (2) other Social Sciences or Arts subjects for Secretarial Education.

6). BENIN and TASUED require Economics, Mathematics, and any other subject in the Social Sciences or Arts.

7). MAIDUGURI requires Mathematics, any of Principles of Accounts/Economics/Commerce, and any of History, Literature in English, Physics, Government, Geography, and Chemistry.

8). BAUCHI accepts Economics, Mathematics, and any other subject.

9). BSU requires Economics, Mathematics, and any one (1) of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Social Science subjects.

10). UNILAG requires Economics, Mathematics, English Language, and any one (1) of the Social Sciences or the Arts.

11). OOU requires Commerce or Economics and any two (2) other Social Science or Arts subjects.

12). UNN requires Economics, Mathematics, in addition to anyone (1) of Government, Commerce, History, Physics, Geography, or Chemistry.

Direct Entry Admission Requirements for Business Education

If you are a direct entry candidate, then you must ensure that you meet the Business Education admission requirements for direct entry candidates. The Direct Entry Admission Requirements for Business Education are for some of the candidates who want to further their education and don’t intend to use UTME.

Direct Entry Requirements for Business Education:

i). NCE merit in two (2) relevant subjects or Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes.

ii). NCE merit in Business Education Double Major.

WAIVER/SPECIAL CONSIDERATION

1). UYO accepts ND upper credit, NCE, and HND lower credit in relevant programs in addition to the UTME requirements.

2). BENIN requires:
a). NCE merit/credit in Business Education/Accounting in 2 or 3 subjects in addition to two (2) or three (3) ‘O’ Level credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Economics/Commerce.
b). JEB (Joint Examination Board) London Teachers Diploma in RSA Shorthand and Typing, National Teachers Certificate (NTTC), National Secretarial Certificate plus Advanced Certificate in Shorthand and Typing in NSC, RSA, in addition to five (5)  ‘O’ Level credit passes.
c).  ND upper credit in Banking and Finance, Accounting, Secretarial Studies, and Business Studies in addition to three (3) ‘O’ Level credit passes at one (1) sitting.

3). EBSU requires OND and HND/NCE with a minimum of Merit and Upper credit.
a). For Secretarial Option; ND/NCE in Secretarial Education with not less than Upper credit from an accredited institution or Accounting or Diploma in Secretarial Studies from recognized Polytechnics.
b). For the Accounts option, they require five (5) Credit/Merit passes at Teachers grade II Certificate.

4). UNIBEN and ABSU accept ND credit in Mathematics, in addition to UTME requirements for BENIN.

5). DELSU requires upper credit or at least a merit pass in NCE  in DELSU Diploma Business Education.

6). UNN accepts:
a). Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in addition to the UTME requirements.
b). NCE merit in Business Education in addition to the UTME requirements.
c). ND lower credit in Secretarial Studies/Administration from any recognized polytechnic in addition to the UTME requirements.
d). National Secretarial Examination Certificate/full Technical Certificate at ‘A’ Level in Business Studies in addition to the UTME requirements.

7). UNIZIK accepts NSEC/FTC in National Secretariate Examination. Advanced level in Business Studies which must include either Shorthand/Typewriting, Economics, or Accounting and Commerce.

8). RSUST plus ‘O’ Level requirements accept:
a). HND (Lower Credit) in any relevant discipline.
b). ND (Upper Credit)/OND in Business Education or a related discipline.
c). NCE in Business Education or related discipline with a minimum of two (2) credits and merit.
d). Two (2) GCE/HSC ‘A’ Levels at credit or above level.

6). UNIUYO also accepts NCE/HND for the 300 level.

7). BIU in addition to the UTME requirements specified in the table above requires 2 ‘A’ Level passes which must be in relevant subjects or credit/NCE merit in relevant subjects.

8). UNN in addition to UTME requirements.

9). BSU requires:
A). Preliminary degree applicants from Benue State University only must possess a pass in at least 5 out of the six (6) subjects studied with a pass level that must be not less than 50% in each subject.
B). HND/ND in a relevant field of studies with upper credit from accredited institutions, full technological certificate (FTC), RSA Advanced in Business Studies/WAEC which must include Accounting or Typewriting and Economics/Commerce with a grade C Passes. You will provide any of the above in addition to ‘O’ Level requirements.
C). NCE use of English is acceptable in place of the ‘O’ Level in English Language.
D). Not below merit passes at NCE, in addition to ‘O’ Level requirements in relevant areas.
E). Any other Degree or qualification that may likely be considered appropriate by Benue State University, Makurdi.
F). ‘A’ Level pass in any of the acceptable subjects.

10). IAUED is the Same as in Accounting Education.

11). NDU is the same as Vocational and Technical Education.

12). LASU in addition to UTME requirements requires NCE merit or two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Business Methods, Book Keeping, Principles of Accounting, Economics, or Commerce. They don’t accept HND or ND.

13). ESUTECH, UNIZIK, ABU, and UNIUYO accept NCE merit/credit in Business Education.

14). LAGOS accepts
a). NCE merit in Business Education Double Major.
b). Good passes in three (3) JUPEB subjects which must include Economics and any 2 of Geography, Business Management, Accounting, and Government.
c). Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in 2 relevant subjects.
d). Candidates should ensure that they meet the UTME requirement
e). NCE merit in 2 relevant subjects which must include Office Management and Financial Accounting.

15). BAUCHI accepts;                                                                                                                                                                            a). Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in any of the subjects that have been listed under the UTME requirements.
b). NCE in Accounting, Business Education Secretarial/Office Practice, Management at merit and above. ND in Public Administration, Business Administration Account, and Business Management at lower credit and above.
c). Pass in NCE, ND, and Grade II alongside four (4) years of teaching experience.

16). ILORIN Preference will certainly be given to NCE holders.

17). MAIDUGURI accepts HND lower credit, NCE/ND in Agricultural Science.

18). KWASU accepts:

a). Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes, IJMB or their equivalent in which one (1) must contain a relevant subject.
b). ND upper credit in Secretarial Studies and Accounting, Office Technology and Management.
c). NCE merit and above in relevant subjects.
d). Preference will also be given to NCE holders.
e). HND lower credit in Accounting, Marketing, and Secretarial Studies.

19). TASUED accepts:
a). HND upper credit/ND in Accounting, Commerce, Business Education, and any other related discipline.
b). NCE merit in teaching subjects.
