WAEC Subjects & Requirements to Study Agricultural Economics

As a UTME candidate applying to study Agricultural Economics in any Nigerian University, you are required to have at least five (5) SSCE credit passes in the required O’Level subjects listed below.

1). Biology/Agricultural Science.
2). English Language.
3). Mathematics.
4). Chemistry.
5). And any one of the following subjects: Economics, Geography, and Physics.

NOTE: The O’Level subject Combination is not limited to just WAEC alone, it also includes NECO, GCE, and their equivalent.

WAIVER/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1). UNIBEN accepts Further Mathematics and Statistics. They also require at least an ‘O’ level pass in Biology as well as an ‘O’level pass in Physics for candidates with ‘O’ level credit in Agricultural Science.

2). LANDMARK accepts ‘O’ level credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry with an ‘O’ level pass in Physics. N.B. if you have an ‘O’ level credit pass in Agricultural Science, you must back it up with at least an ‘O’ level pass in Biology.

3). DELSU accepts ‘O’ level pass in English Language.

4). LAUTECH requires Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry, English Language and any of Physics/Geography/Economics.

5). MOUA requires 5 ‘O’ level credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings to include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Agricultural Science or Biology, and any other Science subjects. Please note that they also demand that credit in Agricultural Science must be balanced with an ‘O’ level pass in Biology.

6). MOUA and FUAM accept ‘O’ level pass in Physics.

7). OAU doesn’t accept ‘O’ level credit passes in Economics and Geography.

8). FUTO requires 5 SSC credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Physics, Economics and Biology/Agricultural Science. They also accept the ‘O’ level pass in Physics at not more than 2 sittings.

9). UNIOSUN same as in Fisheries.

10). OOU and EBSU require ‘O’ level credit in Physics.

11). FUNAAB requires:

i). At least an ‘O’ level pass in Physics.
ii). ‘O’ level credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry.
iii). Candidates with an ‘O’ level pass in Biology are expected to certainly have an ‘O’ level credit pass in Agricultural Science. They don’t accept Agricultural Science in lieu of Biology.

12). UNN accepts 5 ‘O’ level credit passes in the following subjects Biology/or Agricultural Science, Chemistry, English Language and either Physics or Mathematics.

13). UNIOSUN requires 5 ‘O’ level credit passes in the SSC or SSC equivalents which must not be more than 2 sittings plus UTME requirements.

JAMB Subjects & Requirements to Study Agricultural Economics

There are 3 O’Level subjects that you are going to see in your JAMB UTME examination and they are compulsory. You are expected to score not less than 180 (JAMB cut-off Mark for Agricultural Economics for Universities) in the JAMB examination if you wish to study Agricultural Economics in any Nigerian University.

We usually advise students to aim for 200 and above to stand a better opportunity of being admitted based on merit. Below is the required JAMB Subject combination for Agricultural Economics which is under the faculty of Agriculture:

1). Biology/ Agricultural Science.
2). Physics or Mathematics.
3). Chemistry.

WAIVER/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1). LANDMARK requires Physics/Mathematics, Chemistry and any 1 of Agricultural Science, Biology, Geography.
2). OOU requires Chemistry and any 2 of Biology, Physics, Agricultural Science, Mathematics and Geography.

Requirements for Direct Entry (DE) Candidates

There are conditions you must satisfy as a direct entry candidate who doesn’t intend to apply to study Agricultural Economics at any University in Nigeria through UTME.

Direct Entry Requirements for Agricultural Economics:

  • Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and any 1 of Agricultural Science/Zoology/Biology/Botany, Geography, Physics, Mathematics, Geology, Health Science and Economics.

WAIVER/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1). OAU Requires:
i). ND/HND in Agriculture obtained at upper credit level from recognized Institution.
ii). Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and any one of Agricultural Science/Zoology/Biology/Botany, Economics, Mathematics or Physics.

2). OOU accepts:

i). ND Credit in Agriculture for admission consideration into 100 levels.
ii). Requires ‘A’ level pass in both Biology and Chemistry.

3). UNIBEN accepts HND (Lower credit)/ND (Upper credit) in any one of the following; Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Economics, and Fisheries, Cooperatives, Forestry & Wildlife Management, Advanced Microbiology, Geology, Science Laboratory Technology, Food and Brewing Science in addition to the UTME requirements. NCE merit in Biology, Agricultural Science, Physics or Chemistry in addition to the UTME requirements. They don’t accept ‘A’ level pass in Health Science.

4). FUNAAB requires:

i). Two (2) ‘A’ level credit in Chemistry and any one (1) of Agricultural Science/Botany/Zoology, Biology, Physics/Mathematics.
ii). ND/HND in Agriculture obtained at the upper credit level and must be from a recognized institution.
iii). NCE credit in Biology, Agricultural Science, Physics or Chemistry in addition to the UTME requirements.

5). UNN accepts:
i). Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and any one of Agricultural Science/Botany/Biology/Zoology, Economics, Physics, Geology/Geography, Mathematics (Pure & Applied) plus UTME requirements.
ii). HND/NCE/ND and Degree in Animal Health/Agricultural Science and related programs with a minimum of lower credit/merit plus UTME requirements.

6). DELSU only accepts upper credit. They also accept NCE credit in Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Physics or Biology.

7). FUAM accepts NCE/HND/ND in Agriculture, Forestry, Agricultural Science and Education, Food Science and wildlife, and Home Economics in addition to the UTME requirements. Candidates who possess only ‘O’ level credit in one of Physics and Mathematics must also possess ‘O’ level pass in the other.

8). NCE credit double major, ND distinction, HND credit in Agriculture.

9). DELSU only accepts upper credit for ND/HND.

10). UNIOSUN same as in Fisheries.

11). UMOUA as in Agriculture.

12). FUTO requires at least 2 A’ level passes which must not be below C in Chemistry and any of Agricultural Science, Zoology, Botany, Mathematics, Biology, Economics, and Physics. They also accept upper credit HND/ND in Agricultural Science but they don’t require NCE and First Degree. The above requirements must be met in addition to the UTME requirements.

13). LAUTECH requires Chemistry, Agricultural Science/Biology and any of Economics/Physics/Geography.

14). IMSU accepts NCE credit, HND/ND Double major credit in Agriculture into 200 level of the program.
